Brazil is home to 60% of the world's tropical rainforests. It also has some of the largest rare earth supplies on the planet. But mining operations for critical raw materials are not sustainable, says Dr Julie Klinger. We need a global strategy that distributes the benefits of these resources in an equitable way,. Utopian, perhaps, but our planetary room for manoeuvre is shrinking by the day.
