Labour's union base are restive over plans to block all new domestic oil and gas developments. GMB General Secretary Gary Smith said Labour had got it wrong, was risking jobs. But five minutes later, Starmer then promised the GMB that Labour would deliver good union jobs at the GMB's own conference. So what is going on? Can Starmer maintain that tricky balance between a traditionalist union base and the demands of remaking the economy for the 21st century? Hannah Tisdall: I think we're at a turning point, actually.
