The History of James the Just
John the beloved apostle is the only apostle to avoid violent death. He was ordered to be sent from Ephesus to Rome and was thrown into a boiling cauldron of oil, but that he escaped unharmed. According to tradition, James was martyred for his belief in Jesus. After Paul, we have Matthew the tax collector. Legends disagree as to whether he died in natural death or as a martyr.
