It's historically untrue to say that this is a modern contemporary frivolous debate, it's as old as statues. Most of the countries are contested at the time, many of them are contested when they were put up. The first Rhodes Must Fall campaign was in the 1950s and it was white boar students who wanted Rhodes moved because of the Second Boar War. It's not true that this is suddenly a manifestation of liberal or political correctness, that's just not true.
