Immigrant and Settler in America - What's the Difference?
A settler is creating a new society and so when the pilgrims came in 1620 they of course interacted with the Native Americans who'd been here for thousands of years themselves. They weren't looking to become Native Americans or join a Native American society, they were looking to build their own but there was conflict on both sides. I live out in Montana which is still kind of to the extent that Bloor 48 has a frontier in America, we're sort of it. You'll hear stories even into the late 19th century, early 20th century from people's families about kind of living on the frontier as sort of settlers.
