Isabel, Is There a Common Obligation to Everyone?
We have a huge obligation towards people regardless of, to put it in very brutal terms, regardless of their talent. I often felt in britain that the top 90 % of us were living decent lives and the bottom 10% were living horrifying lives. The left couldn't really see them, because the left wanted to see them only in materialist terms. And found it very difficult to think about the type of policies or the type of moral commotement you would have to take towards those citizens.
