The Citadel: A Drawing Room
Urslant meets Amé in the drawing room of a private house. He is taken upstairs to an extravagant social club where he finds himself surrounded by wealthy people who talk crassly and laugh. The hostess brings him over to a sofa facing out into the rain, which has been swept away from the city's rooftops. Urslant asks: "Why is it called a drawing room? I'm not much of an artist."
