How to Indicate Editions of a Book
In the 19 sixties, tolkin rewrote portions of the book for perposes of copyright. So technically it was a new edition, but they just did it the same way. And then, of course, that went through impressions as well. Now you get into the digital age, where nobody is manually setting type. It's all right, computers, it's made of the equivalent of lazer printers put pump ya pumpy blestings out,. But they're still listed as impressions.
