Firefighters at this point in time were working 24 hour shifts,. 9am to 9am the next morning, and they would do this 84 hours a week. The average wage of an American firefighter is around $4,500 a month. In bigger cities like New York City, firefighters can make upwards of 100k if they've been there for five years.
