The Brooklyn Navy Yard: A History of Disaster

The USS Constellation caught fire on December 19th, 1960 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. 50 people were killed and hundreds more seriously injured filling the local hospitals. Three days earlier two airplanes collided over the skies of Brooklyn killing one person in part slope and the other in Staten Island. Many of the firefighters who fought the blaze in park slope were once again fighting a deadly fire.
