The people you surround yourself with reinforce your world view. They create a kind of echo chamber. Your mind will become the average of your friends if you socialize with them long enough. The groups that many people are a part of are not very conscious groups. This herd, oftentimes, these teams and these herds are involved in very shallow, low consciousness survival activities or even just downright devilry and evil.
