The Difficulty of Changing the Constitution
The federal constitution has existed for about 120 years and it has been very rarely changed. 44 times the people of Australia have thought about or tried to change the constitution - only eight times has that been successful. The document we're all operating under was drafted in the late 1890s by a bunch of old white guys who had very different concerns, very different priorities,.Very different interests, and for very different societies than our end today.
