Amelia asked him why he had come to see her at such a late hour. He said it was business with mister letterblair, but she insisted they should talk now. She looked sombre and told him: I want to get away from it all. His face reddened as the reality of his situation dawned on him. 'You'll never be like everybody else,'  said amelia in an uncharacteristic understatement. The two sat together for some time before talking about art again.
