The Neanderthal Genome

Barry Sharpless is one of only five people to have won the prize twice. He worked on sequencing ancient DNA of our extinct human cousin, the Neanderthal. It's thanks to that work that we understand that most of us - and some more than others - have Neanderthal DNA within our genome.
