Transplanting a Pig Kidney

We had two surgical teams. We recovered the pigs kidneys in the exact same ahon that we recover kidneys from human brain dead donors. A second team of surgeons, and this was the team that i led, prepared mister parsons when the kidneys arrived. We got them all ready, and then we transplanted them into mister Parsons in the exact same way a that we transplant a human kidney into a human recipient. And it worked. I think you could have heard a pin drop the magnitude of the moment. It really represented, i think, culmination of decades of research. But most importantly, hope of all those patients in need of an organ and one's not available
