I'm a stay at home father and one of my duties every day is to be a dinner for the family. I was listening to Yale put out a series of lectures online about 15 years ago now, which were lectures in ancient literature. And it was actually in his historical discussion on the New Testament that he said something which really triggered me to go down this rabbit hole. He wasn't saying anything at all in reference to the crucifixion at the time. The ancient Jews would yell the first line of the song and then recite the rest of the song after that.
