How to Deal With the Pain of Envy
Without the pain of envy there could be no experience of learning what is decisive here is to what extent and how early a child is confronted with such experiences of lack. The roots of narcissistic disorder are often found at such experiences, as well as sibling conflicts between siblings. In most cases envy persists gnawing at one's soul refusing to grant others what they need not being able to tolerate the feeling that one is inadequate. This defense mechanism works by inverting what one in fact desires for example when a person goes from being infatuated by someone one moment to deeming them unattractive the next.
