How Ellis Island Worked
A 20-year-old immigrant arrived in the United States. He didn't speak English, but he had an address for his cousin who lived in New York City. It took him about three hours to get processed on a good day at Ellis Island. The process was driven by a little card that he held with him that had a number assigned to him.
