The Role of Learning in Education

There is a fair amount of research that shows the robustness of different cognitively driven mechanisms. Robert Bjork came up with the idea of desirable difficulties in learning essentially saying look if it's easy when you learn it it's less likely to stick if it's hard. As long as it's not too hard it's more likely to stick over the long term now I'm really simplifying an enormous body of research there but that body of research was done in both education and sport. Some of those results are incredibly simple motor skills like finger tapping on computer screens.
