The Importance of Mockumentary Style in Film

I was such a big fan of Peter Berg's first season of Friday Night Lights. And so I thought, oh, this movie is actually an opportunity for me to take all the things that I've done in my own fake documentary work and try to apply that aesthetic into a drama. He gave us a lot of room for improvisation... It just makes it feel like it's happening in the moment. There are some elements of it that I think will bump for audiences because they're not used to seeing stories told that way. But you wind up for me anyway, getting so much out of the process. Because I love filmmaking. You know what I mean?
