The Importance of Neuronal Cells

In contrast, something like neuronal cells, brain cells, they exist forever for our lifetime. They don't die. And ultimately that leads to the structure and function of our brain. Each time a cell will divide, it creates two identical daughter cells. If you get damage to your brain, your neuronal cells are not dividing in order to repair that damage. That's why these diseases of aging, particularly dementia related or neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's, like Huntington's, like Alzheimer's can be so debilitating because your brain doesn't heal like other parts of your body does.
