New York's Smallpox Hospital

By law, any new yorker who had contracted smallpox was sent here. It would eventually be known as city hospital in 18 72. Renwick also designed a lighthouse for the island's northern end to prevent ships from crashing into the banks near the asylum. The lighthouse still stands there to day. But a sudden shift and purpose will turn renwick's forlorn palace into a landmark of american health.
