The Economics of Stock Piling

The United States used to have stock piles of all sorts of stuff in case of, you know, war. And then every now and then a shock would hit, and then we'd open the dusty warehouse,. We realized none of the stuff we'd stored was actually still usefula being majoritive. Some there'se some things that don't deteriorate in storage, so it would be fine to store them. The literature on this is that in general, it doesn't seem to be worth it, that stock piling is not worth it, because world trade really works.
