The key thing for us is whether or not you feel like you're being an effective agent in the world. We want to see ourselves as acting on the world in ways that spring from our own desires and needs. When Brian is stuck in traffic, he's lacking agency. He's not choosing to be there, but there's precious little he can do about it. But his dad says that being bored is a choice. What does James make of that?
