The Blind Eye Approach to Transaction Monitoring
No matter how suspicious the flows of money from the Epstein accounts, the approach was this, if it had seen it before, it was normal, and therefore not suspicious. And this blind eye approach goes on for years. One email exchange shows a member of the transaction monitoring team responding to an alert about payments to a Russian model and Russian publicity agent from an Epstein account. "Just because that type of transaction activity has happened historically in that account does not mean it's not suspicious," he says.
