Emergency doctors have to be systematic and think about the appropriate things. Repetition is largely part of it too. Working in the ED isn't for everyone, but we work in a system which is chaotic. Entropy is the norm. Every time I walk into a shift, I expect that entropy. And really all I'm doing at the end of the day is bringing transient order to the chaos. That's the kind of emergency medicine.
