I'd like to take a big step back and do some context setting both for myself as well as listeners that might not have a strong foundation and understanding of how we got to defining agriculture that we do today. If you can humor me, paint a picture of the role that agriculture has played in human development, maybe you can step back tens of thousands of years. We are in the position we're in now because of humanity's race for fast carbon or stored pools of carbon which started long before fossil fuels. But it really started in earnest when homo sapiens started to figure out that you could plant some annual plants and get grain from that. That grain itself was a stored form of energy
