The outdoor retailer r e i. gave their employees the day off on black friday to encourage customers to get outside or spend time with friends and family. That's a great example of something that was not created. The reason why they have that epathetic culture is not because they sat around in a boardroom and thought, how can we get attention? What can we do to make it seem like we're really caring? It actually bubbled up organically from an employee meeting.
