The Origins of the Roman Empire

Without the legions there is no peace. The whole empire essentially exists to provide the legions with the money that then enables the empire to exist. A legio originally meant a levy and every city in the ancient world had one. It's such an odd thing to have, but again it's the genius of Augustus that enables it.
