Using a 3D Camera to Measure the Height of a Cable
We're trying to imagine that we can't know exactly the height of the cable. What we can do is we can use geometry and physics. We don't need a contact sensor here. We have a vision because the cable will imperceptibly move just a few pixels. But knowing that is a trigger to say, wait, that's the height. And we know the height of that robot arm because of the kinematics. So I can determine what therefore that's where the cable is. This is a kind of thing we're interested in is how to use geometry and mechanics to perform things where the sensor may not be sufficient.
