The Disparities in Maternal Health in Louisiana

A third of Louisiana parishes don't have a single OB-GYN, leaving more than 51,000 women without easy access to care. Lieutenant Guiwa saw those disparities when she worked as a delivery room nurse. She co-founded the New Orleans-based Birthmark Doolah Collective that provides emotional and physical support before, during, and after childbirth. Last year, the Collective worked with 2,000 mothers.
