Alexander the great took over this vast empire, made greek the main shared language. And so although alexander's conquests did not last, they paved the way for what we call the hellenistic era. It seems that it was in this hellenistic age that something much more like astrology that we know to day took shape. The planets were seen as especially significant because they didn't simply move in a regular, repeating circle around the sky but rather, they moved in erratic, shifting paths.
