The only possible queer relationship that they can imagine is with a white person as and you know, as someone who's explicitly marked as an outsider. From the perspective of like the older generation, like Evelyn and Gongong, it's like the fear of them being assimilated too much into this Western culture. I feel like Wong Kar Oi has made like one of the greatest works of queer cinema happy together of recent decades.
