The Social Order Is a Sacrificial Right
Rousseau was among the philosophs and atheists of the french enlightenment. But he had a correspondence with voltaire, who really did hate christianity. He says there are all sorts of private areas where you can believe whatever you want. It's not your job to intrude and figured out what is in people's best interest - rather, it's up to them. The social order is a sacred right, which is the basis of all other rights. Nevertheless, this right does not come from eand must therefore be founded on conventions.
