Behaviour economists have been playing a game with people. They say if you offer someone a buck, they will take it and that's better than nothing. But what happens in real life is the other person offers them 50% of their own self-interest - not 100%. So when we are trying to maximise ourself interest by offering others more money, we need to play fair.
