Introduction
Alma Munn was Caliph of the Abbasid dynasty from 813 to 9th century. He supported a huge translation programme of Greek text into Arabic. In science, virtually every field which had flourished in ancient Greece was revitalised. Islamic intellectuals contributed new work in areas such as medicine and optics. The resurgence of astronomy in the Islamic world was stimulated in part by the translation movement but crucially it was also an area in which the state actively intervened.
