Feminist and Post-Colonial Theories Enrich and Complement Each Other
Feminist glaciology builds from feminist post-colonial science studies analyzing not only gender dynamics and situated knowledges but also alternative but alternative knowledges, which are not knowledge. Alternative knowledges and folk glaciologies that are generally marginalized through not through rigorous methodology, but through colonialism, imperialism, inequality, unequal power relations, patriarchy, and the domination of Western science back to the end. With hundreds of millions of people utilizing glaciers for everything from drinking water and hydroelectricity to recreation and spiritual sites, the disproportionate vulnerabilities and disparate adaptive capacities in these societies are critical to acknowledge.
