Speaker 1
Like when I see you now, besides when I see you on private jets. You want to talk with your private jets and all these commercials and things. I see you with your dogs. The only time I fly private is my dogs. When you were at the dump. That's why I was really trying to get to. But you know, I had to. You just had to tear some bubble of anyhow. When I fly private. No, I literally I would save every penny for my dogs. Yeah. I mean, it sounds silly and you know, obviously I would love to have kids and I will one day, but right now I have three dogs and they're getting older. One of my oldest in particular. I lost one almost two years ago. And it was like so traumatizing. Yeah. Dogs are very special. So I will give every last penny I have to have my dogs with me as long as I can. Yeah. And you think they're preparing you for being a parent and learning how to deal with. Well, I mean, they like kids. Well, my kids are not flying private just to be clear. All right. Well, my dogs. Well, I'll say that. No, I'm not flying private. They are not. I'll tell you
Speaker 3
that right now. All right.
Speaker 1
Maybe when they're younger and they don't realize it.
Speaker 3
Yeah, they don't
Speaker 1
realize it. Yeah, they're going to go through tears. Oh, yeah. No, they're in the back. Yeah, like I was. I really have food in New Zealand next to the toilet in row like 75. They can do it. OK, it's possible. We can do hard things. All right. But your dogs fly private. I'm just going to turn it out there. OK, but your kids not know. And you ain't had no wine before we started as interview. And one.
Speaker 1
just for the record to be shown, Lindsay did not want to drink any of my wine because she is a family in war. Yes, she would not. I'm a low-host girl. Yes, you would not cheat on my wife. My
Speaker 3
wife, you know, I love you. And I I
Speaker 1
weighed sellers. Great wine.
Speaker 3
If I drink wine, I drink with sellers, but I
Speaker 1
is why I was unfiltered. It's unfiltered.
Speaker 3
What happens when you have a way in
Speaker 1
colors? I don't know what that is. Motorcycle vest on happens. Can I talk about this real? It's a motorcycle jacket. So when I first got car heart, it could be a lot of things. Yeah, you rustic. So when I first got into the wine industry, right? No, I wasn't even in the wine industry. When I first went to Napa for the first time ever to go and do wine tasties. The first gentleman that I ran into was wearing one of these. He was wearing one of these. He was a black man. It was a black man. And you know, if you know anything about wine, especially if you know anything about wine, but if you know anything about Napa as well, you don't see a lot of black people in the wine. And so I pull up and I first person to open the gate and this is a black man. He wearing one of these and I'm like, wait, who are you? Yeah. And I got a chance to build a relationship with them and all these things. But I say that to say, I've always wanted one of these. And so when I started my own wine label, I got me one of the same way sellers right here. I like it. Yeah, you know, branding. I like it. No, it's well. No, it's great. Seven, a little bit of 1707 is better branding, but it's OK. It's a wolf, you know, you got the three stripes. That's kind of cool. Bob, jump in
Speaker 3
here because we
Speaker 3
So I wanted to understand as far as like when you see another athlete, like they're both got gold medals. Is it a situation where you see the other athlete and it's like a like in the movie Wall Street where it sharks is another shark, when you see that the great athlete, what does that feel like to guys? We all see each other.
Speaker 1
It's cool. I feel like we're in a club. Yeah. I'm like finally at the cool kids club. Yeah, because there's a respect that we all have. We understand to get here what you did to get here. Yeah. So we have a respect. Yeah, I like the respect because it's not something that's given. It's definitely earned, but it's such a small group of us that I don't know. It feels it feels pretty cool. Yeah. No, I do. I mean, the ones that are cool. Yeah. Let's go there. The ones that I'm not. There's some that are not. The ones that are like cool. We're not going to talk about this. Yeah. But there's a couple that, you know, they're in their own club. Yeah. I like being a part of it. I honestly, I've been like, it's kind of an individual sport, even though we are a part of a team, but I like being a team. Yeah. Were the club. Yeah. I mean, it's when Lindsay and I, like, as our friendship built was at the espits when we kind of like, you know, our friendship started to build and it was it was really just out of respect. It was like her and Grant. Yeah. We all had complex, great things in our own sport. You know, obviously we were moving to something else, but the way you able to build relationships with people and you respect them is because one, I knew just from the stuff that I heard about Lindsey, what I'll know, all the things is I knew I was like, yo, this athlete to do all the things in the complex where she's accomplished in the sport that she's accomplished in. Like her mental has to like, you know what I mean? I'm already going to her mind. I'm like, her mind has to be so strong. She has to be so this. He has to be so that so it's a respect that goes into knowing like what it took for you to get on this stage where I am because I know the dark nights and the times I talked to myself to get
Speaker 3
on this stage as well. And
Speaker 1
so yeah, it feels good to have relationships with people that you respect at that at that at the stream. And I think it's also two like different generations. Like, you know, even older athletes, like there's always that level of respect because, again, you know how hard it takes, like what it takes to get there. Yeah. So yeah, I agree. When you are not in the room, what do you hope that people say about you when you're not in the room? What are the things that you try to leave behind? I don't know. Just that I left the room better than the way I found it. Like I always want to be positive. It was cooler when you leave. Like, what do you mean by that? No, I mean that. So when I
Speaker 3
think about my mom, like she
Speaker 1
was always this, you know, incredibly positive person. It was like this light that she had. And no matter how shitty your day was, she always made you feel better. Like, I want you to feel better. I didn't drink your wine, but I mean, you ain't making me feel that like you leave my office and I'm a little bit shitty. I said I drink Wade wine with sellers, you know, I'm that I'm promoting always from all my friends. You know, I got you. So to make the world a better place. Yeah, I hope that I love skiing in the better place than I found it. You know, I hope that I, you know, whatever whatever I do in the business world, same thing. And you know, when I invest in sports, I'm investing mainly in women. You know, and I want to make it better or somewhat easier for them than it was for me. You know, I don't like I don't promote skiing just to promote myself. I do it for the sport, you know, like, of course there's, you know, there's our business, but ultimately I want to leave it better than what I found it. And, you know, I was inspired by my idol, Peekaboo Street. And, you know, she triggered that chain reaction of me following my dream. So how many people can I positively affect like she did for me? You know, that's what I want to do. Create a ripple effect that lasts a long time. A long time. But you'll probably talk shit about me when I leave. So it's fine. I mean, I'm definitely going to do it. But I also big you up to it at the same time. Like both. I know it's an equal proportions. One of the things that actually how we even get to this point that we're here is the fact that I remember one of the first after after the Espies, one of the first times we talked out the words you talked to me about it was an investment opportunity. I don't know if you remember and you sent it over. I had this something that you and you want to be. I thought that was so cool. It was so dope. It wasn't like like you don't get a lot of people who are up and doing something. Yeah, that won't you to be a part of it. Yeah, not it. Not where I come from, not in sports. I know I get to. Not in sports. I come from it. That's not how I operate. But I've had that for most of my career, there's been situations where there's been opportunities and because someone didn't want me a part of it, they shut it down. Yeah. And I never want to be that person. Yeah. Like if there's an opportunity that I can give to others, like I want to I want you on on the deal, like I want all of us to make money. You know, I want to build something great with new companies or support other people, you know, that's that's my jam. I'm not like I don't need to hog all everything for myself. Yeah, I always say like I don't want to eat at a table by myself. It's long. You know, I mean, like who wants to be sitting there cutting up steak by they sell for no one to talk to, no one to share things with. You know, and so like I want to hold table full of people who I don't want to talk to my dogs, just my dogs that be weird. I feel like one of your private judges is you and your dogs. I mean, I'm just going to leave that where it is. I don't know. It might be before I get to my last question. You got anything else?
Speaker 3
I don't know. Just kind of like not a job both of us. We were tired. And we're like, what's like some of the biggest and coolest things you're doing retirement now?
Speaker 1
Yeah, again, I'm just trying to keep up with him. So it's it's hard. Literally, I I'm still building off of what I started and skiing. You know, I think it's been just this constant evolution of, you know, brand partnerships and investments and they started investing, you know, while I was still racing, but not to the degree in which I would have liked had I known more at the time, but you know, just like we're building, you know, I'm building in the investment side. And now in a sports fund with with Avenue Capital, with Strahan and Candice Parker and stuff. Thanks. I'm really excited about it, but it's it's an evolution of just building. And I don't know where it'll get to. I don't know what my goal is, honestly, ultimately. I just want to make everything I touch better and and then hopefully be able to sustain myself and my kids for a long time and my dogs and their private jets. Only the dogs. Oh,
Speaker 1
I would say for me, when I was getting thinking about retirement, actually, Kobe was doing amazing in retirement. And so for me, when I was getting ready to retire, I was like, cool. I would be able to reach out to Cole and be able to ask him anything about like TV production, about investing all the things that he was doing. And he was doing it at the same level that he was playing at. Like, you know what I mean? It wasn't like he was just doing he was doing the same level. And unfortunately, when we lost our brother, I felt like I became a leader in retirement. Yeah, no, you are athletes. Yeah. Right. And it's like you literally hit the ground running. Hit the ground running. Even before that, though, even before Kobe, you you definitely were on like a different trajectory and you've taken retirement to a totally different level. And I think that's like why we connect a lot is because we're we see things in a different way. We want to go to different places. I don't I'm not content with just living off of my accolades. Like this is great, but it's not who we are. You know, there's so much more that we have to give and that we strive for. So you have definitely led the way in retirement. And I I've honestly sincerely look up to you. So don't don't don't take that in front of it. Well, I've tried and I and I felt that I felt like I like I know when I was retiring, I needed someone that was doing it to show me like man, you could still reach a certain level of retirement and it looks a certain way and you know, the way Kobe was doing it. And so in in my retirement, I've tried to do that. And even if someone reaches out to me, if they don't, I know they're watching. Yeah, I know all everyone's watching. And so, you know, what I've tried to do is I've tried to continue to push the envelope. I tried to show people that it can look different. It can be different. It can feel, you know, whatever way you want it to feel. Yeah, because like I do all the things. I'm an owner of a team, right? It was probably not an owner. I'm a governor and not even a governor. I'm like a small minority. I'm a small minority owner, but also take my shirt off all the time.
Speaker 3
You do. Yeah, it's a lot. Sometimes I don't know why. I mean, it's just it's like
Speaker 1
always my algorithm says that people go on. They don't fuck with my posts. I mean, yeah, it's a lot. I don't know. Like it's like even on the red carpet, just like D-Wade shirt comes off. It's just it's kind of like a thing. It's like a me. That was a request. Your wife must request it. No, no, no, no. Donatella from Versace. Well, you probably have to do what she has to say. Yeah, she would request. Yeah. But I try to show them that like you can do and be who you don't you don't have to look like this. Like I throw a suit on and I'll be in this meeting, but also to take a shirt off. They don't look better than mine. So you can do things different.
Speaker 4
I believe in you. Yeah, color your hair.
Speaker 1
Yeah, do whatever you want. Yeah, that's how I roll.
Speaker 4
We get it. Yeah, I
Speaker 1
got you. Good. So to get you out of here, when I started a podcast, you know, I talked about the name on podcast called the why.
Speaker 3
And I think that's
Speaker 1
a very important question, especially what we are in life. You are 84, baby. So you'll be turning. Big year coming up soon. We don't need to talk about this. I'm already over it. Like I'm turning 42. How is it on the other side? Is it good? It's great. And the parties. It's all good. No one knows that 84, 2,024. Just some people can't count. It's OK. It's cool. You know what? Actually, I have somebody I work with that really runs like my business and she's not a good counter. So I understand. Yeah, exactly. So the question is, at this point, you've accomplished so much. I mean, to me and to so many others, you are a legend and you are iconic in so many ways and you're doing so many incredible things. But as we sit here and we're turning
Speaker 1
that that premium number. That's premium. That's a good way to say it. That's a premium number that we turn. Right. Very important part of our life. We want to get to that number from where you sit here and where you're going before your birthday comes. What would be your why? What is your why going forward? Like we know your why as a kid, how you got to this place. And once you get to that space, all the accolades and all the success, all the business opportunities in the diversity.
Speaker 4
What is your why going forward?
Speaker 1
I mean, going forward is a hard question because I think I'm still figuring out my why. Like I am someone that always works hard and I always have worked hard and trying to figure out how do I put that into a passion because I'm doing so many things. Right. And nothing is really engaging me in the way that skiing did. Right. Right. So I'm like, OK, but I'm still not going 85, you know, like investing is fun and all, but like I'm not risking my life. Like wins and investment don't feel good. It's like, OK, got to email. Exactly. It's not, you know, you're not you're not getting anything tangible from it. And so, you know, I don't know. I I think I'm still in search of my why, I guess. And I'm actually proud of that. You know, I it's an evolution. You know, I'm still evolving. I'm still learning. I'm still growing. I don't know where that's going to take me. You know, life is crazy. It can be amazing. It can be very difficult. Yeah. But I know that I'm here. I'm enjoying every second. I wake up every day thankful that I'm here and where that takes me. I don't know. So you put pressure on yourself right now to do to accomplish, to become to just riding a wave. No, I always put pressure on myself. Like, I, you know, if I say I'm going to do something, you know, I expect to do it. And I have those high kind of expectations, but I don't. I'm not as self critical as I used to be. OK, working on that. That's a different that's that's a that's a therapist question. That's OK. Once you get to the TV to the premium, you probably answer this already in your other podcast, no one is ever in my other podcast. No one has asked me my why you the first person to go back on me. What is your why in your premium year coming up? Premium years, you know, what's crazy? I see you with that question. I never thought about
Speaker 3
myself. Well, I'm here to ask
Speaker 1
you, you know, I guess my why to to sum it up and I be long winded would be to make sure that whatever I'm doing is what I want to do. And, you know, we go through life a lot and you have so many people who, you know, obviously there to assist you and help you, you know, to accomplish things you want to. But, you know, you wanted to be you and to feel like you. And so my why every day is to is to wake up and to find, you know, find that. What is that? Who do I want to be because it changes all the time? Yeah. And so, you know, but I want to make sure that whatever I'm doing in life, that it feels like me when you see it, you smell it when you hear it, that's the one way. And so my wife is to find myself from this 40s. We don't don't say that number. I'm premium on from premium on from premium. I'm not I'm not premium yet. We don't start saying that. I'm premium. They're going to be premium. I'm premium. I'm premium. I just say premium. I'm premium. Yeah. Everybody. Yeah. Right here on the podcast. We just created a thing. So Lindsey, I have this book that was sent to me and I opened it up very excited. I was like, oh, Lindsey, it's just to be clear. And I sent me your book that was not signed also. Oh, that's what we're doing. Now I know what car she was like. Now I know it's just to feel like you tell them. So now one day when I have a podcast, I'm going to have you on with your unsigned book. And I'm going to force you to sign it on on the podcast. I'm getting this signed on the podcast, everybody. And this is this is something that I did not bring over here today because you were coming. This is something that stays in my office. I got books of great athletes and people that I adore in a mire. And so I will love if you will be able to sign this. I will sign your book for you. Have a shot before you. It's not in gold. It's kind of funny, wasn't it? No, OK, don't be calling me. I like, listen, we OK. We on the budget. We retired. Do you wait? Some place like you're so premium.
