The Catholic Population in Northern Ireland Is Not a Majority

The Census found that 42.3% of people in Northern Ireland said they were Catholic, while 37.4% said they were Protestant. If you include people who say they have a Catholic or a Protestant background, the number of Catholics goes up to 45.7%. This is compared to 43.5% for those identifying as Protestant or from a Protestant background. Professor Gladys Ganyal says this growing third group will be 17.4% by 2021. That groups up from 10.1% in 2011 to 17. 4% in 2021.
