The Generalist Urge to Focus on the Big Picture Relationships

I think what we're getting at here is this sort of generalist urge, right? This urge to look at these big picture relationships rather than to be stuck in some very specialized nitty gritty sort of work. And that was one of sort of my misconceptions in going to philosophy grad school thinking, you know, I'm going to continue on my big picture path. The real work of moving some discipline forward means focusing on the specific area and making some very, very incremental steps.
