Hanna senesh was a poet and member of the pamach, hebrew militia. She volunteered for british special operations executive which dropped her by parachute into yugoslavia in may 19 forty four. Instead she was captured, turned over to the s s, beaten, tried and executed by firing squad. The national library celebrated the day by tweeding a copy of the last letter that senish ever wrote to her brother george.
