The Christian Afterlife in the Sumerian Underworld

In older versions of the story, written in Sumerian, Gilgamesh is called Bilgamesh. Of particular interest to Sumerians was fertility and the production of offspring. The more children a man has, the more he gets to eat in the afterlife from his children's sacrificial offerings to him. Those who do not honor their parents are made to suffer from thirst.
