The Analogies Between Mathematics and Fiction

There is a modern view in the philosophy of mathematics that mathematical objects are fictional objects. So there's an understanding of how there's a real question about how you understand fictional objects. I don't think Hartree would be very sympathetic to the view that one should treat them as not existing objects. But it does underline the thought that there are actually very close similarities between various accounts of mathematical objects and fictional objects.
