The Dissonance of Being a 21 Year Old
I remember feeling proud when I would hear that and be like, Yes, we have this strange family. And, you know, it was almost like a point of pride that things were so calm. But as a result, anything that was messy or painful or complicated, I'd kind of shoved it into a box. Or into the novel. Maybe that's what was happening into my writing. It had been a really difficult experience for your 21 year old self that maybe at 21 you weren't able to acknowledge or even to see.
