The Effect of Fungi on Plastic Recycling
Scientists at the University of Sydney have found two types of fungi that eat away at polypropylene. That's plastic used in the making of takeaway containers, ice cream tubs and cling film. Scientists are now looking at ways these fungi can be used on a large scale. We humans generate around 400 million tons of plastic waste each year. Nearly half of that is sent to landfill or pollutes the environment.
