The History of Prescription Lists
Sulla put thousands of people on a prescription list to curry favor with the government. The process was overseen by his freedman, Lucius Cornelius Christogenous. It's unknown just how many people were ultimately put on the list, but estimates are as high as 9,000. Julius Caesar survived and went out of his way to be conciliatory towards his former enemies. However, it would prove to be his undoing when his enemies ended up assassinating him.
