The Evolution of Space Syntax

Space Syntax is a set of techniques for consistently describing and analyzing relationships between space. It was started at University College London by Bill Hillier in the 1980s to help people understand how well connected spaces were. And so that would mean turning every space into, without being too technical, turned every space into a node in a graph. This kind of analysis gets used a lot now for things like social network analysis - but it's also very much an art form.
