The Importance of Fatherhood
Some people squirm when they hear God spoken of as a Father tragically. Athanasius wanted to make clear that God is not called 'Father' because he copies earthly fathers, but the other way round. It's a misstep to think that that's what Father means for God first and foremost. A Father is a person who gives life, who begets children. And so where some fathers do a good job of looking like the Father, others look more like the devil.
