I think in general, I had lost. The teaching was unfortunately a part of this kind of large scale public university factory style degree production. So it had a lot to do with the sense that my life needed to be connected to the suffering of the world and need to become some kind of a service in light of that suffering. And then I was at Mass in the Catholic Church in Auburn, Alabama, and there were people there by themselves and it was silent and people were praying and I thought, Oh, this is what I wanted. This is what I was looking for. It was a moment where I decided I was going to keep moving in that direction.
