Lachlan's stomach flipped like a landed fish. The prisoner's hand was thick but small, like a child's. It should have been easy to break free, but when he pulled, the hand clutched tighter. Drums began to pound. A heavy base beat echoed through Lachlan's boots and rattled his armor. He took a deep breath, held it for a count of four, and exhaled slowly. Sir Rancier had taught him that lesson three years ago.
